If you’re planning to travel by train this winter, here’s a shocking update! Indian Railways has announced the cancellation of 24 key trains (12 pairs) from December 1, 2025, until February 28, 2026, all due to the heavy winter fog affecting visibility and train schedules.
In addition, some trains have reduced frequency, and a couple are partially canceled. Here is everything you need to know to avoid last-minute surprises.
Why Did Indian Railways Cancel These Trains?
The main reason behind this mass cancellation is thick winter fog, which dramatically reduces train visibility. To prevent accidents and delays, the East Central Railway has taken this drastic step. The official circular also covers reduced frequencies and partial suspensions for several routes.

- Prayagraj Jn.–Muzaffarpur Express (Train No. 14112) & Return (14111)
- Veerangana Laxmibai (Jhansi)–Kolkata Express (22198/22197)
- Howrah–Dehradun Upaasana Express (12327/12328)
- Malda Town–New Delhi Express (14003/14004)
- Barauni–Ambala Harihar Express (14523/14524)
- Purnea Court–Amritsar Jansewa Express (14617/14618)
- Dibrugarh–Chandigarh Express (15903/15904)
- Kamakhya–Gaya, Kamakhya–Anand Vihar, Hatia–Anand Vihar, Santragachi–Anand Vihar, Tatanagar–Amritsar, and more!
Trains With Reduced Frequency:
- Gwalior–Barauni and Barauni–Gwalior Express: Canceled on select days
- Ajmer–Sealdah and Sealdah–Ajmer Express: Fewer running days each week
- Numerous other popular trains from Kolkata, Howrah, Bhagalpur, Patliputra, Lucknow, and more!
Partial Cancellations:
- Howrah–Mathura Chambal Express: Suspended between Agra Cantt and Mathura Jn.
- Return journey affected on specific days as well.
